• Welcome to my blog!

My name is Jeni Friend…you can call me jenifriend. Hi.

I did not begin my life as a photographer. In fact, I didn’t even own a real camera until 2007…I just always used the Kodak instant cameras when I wanted to capture a moment. I did not spend my time in the photography studio, rather the dance studio. I was not inclined to be a photographer. Yet somehow, it happened. It began with my niece being born in December 2006, and I wanted to be the person who captured all of her moments. All of her smiles. All of her tears. All of her joyous adventures. I soon after received a Sony DSC-H7, and thus began my journey into photography education and exploration. I had no idea this would be the place I’d end up, but I am so happy I am finally here!!

I relish in capturing the love and exuberance on a couples face, the ferociousness of a model’s stare, the angelic innocence of a child as they erupt into giggles and grins, the wonderment and joy of a mommy-to-be, and the refreshing essence of nature in all its seasons of life.

Based in a suburb of Kansas City, I shack up with my two fur babies: Peaches (a drooling fur ball feline) and Sasha (an ornery meow box). I love home decorating, natural living and dancing in my underwear. Kansas State is my Alma Mater and I bleed purple year round. Go Cats!!

the sims family | olathe kansas family photographer

It’s an unbelievable feeling when you have repeat Clients. Knowing they trust in your abilities to create work they’ll love and be open to share with family and friends is really really great. The Sims Family is near and dear to my heart in so many ways – Chelse and Curt have an incredible relationship and some pretty awesome children. I can’t go without mentioning their pup, Jasper, who was a real trooper while we all tromped around the living room and acted like fools. It was a fantastic afternoon with beautiful light and beautiful people!

megan | one year | leavenworth kansas child photographer

I love babies. Megan was no exception. With her perfect set of bottom teeth and sparkly blueish-green eyes, I was taken by her from the moment we met. Adele, her Mom, was amazing in her imagination and brought along fantastic props of her own so we could fulfill the vision she had for her daughters one year portraits.

lauren | leawood kansas senior portrait photographer

Lauren is one of those girls who is reserved in her thoughts and words. Give her the right motive and opportunity, however, and she’ll interject with something witty enough to make you almost pee your pants. We shared time together on a very early August morning in downtown Kansas City, lurking through alleyways and climbing all over the Kansas City Library in an effort to get a few senior portraits that reflected the sweet adolescence and growing opportunities for her as she finishes her last year in high school.

Have fun during your senior year, Lauren! And regardless of the college you choose, they’ll be lucky to have you!!

These next two pictures are my favorite because of the light — I couldn’t get enough of the way it wrapped around Lauren!

it’s a party! | leavenworth kansas event photographer

Something I began doing later into last year was offer party packages. Whether it’s a birthday party, a graduation or a reunion of friends, the event deserves to be documented! Around this same time there was a school auction I participated in for local fundraising in Leavenworth, giving away one of these packages to the highest bidder. What an amazing time we all had, celebrating school being over for these sweet, sassy and all-around awesome young ladies!!

Emily was the hostess with the mostest, so she absolutely deserves some recognition on the blog!

Then there were here pals – these girls were the greatest!

grace | kansas city child photographer

I can’t remember where I found the dress; all I knew was that my niece needed to wear it, along with a bright orange handkerchief on her head, for a few pictures for family. In my mind it was going to be a very prairie-esque session. Once she donned the attire, it more closely resembled an interesting combination of Little House on the Prairie meets Little Orphan Annie. Grace thought it was “soooo coool Auntie J!” so we went for it and enjoyed some sunset time together – just me and one of my favorite girls.

At the very end of the session, my brother rounded the corner to play the next hole of disc golf. Grace’s eyes lit up and she ran towards him screaming, “Daddy!” with her arms wide open.
